WebPutting a bend in a port tends to introduce unpredictable losses which reduce the port output and also lower the power level at which air noises due to turbulence (chuffing) will be heard. Size matters! The larger a cab, assuming a fixed port area, the shorter the port will be for the same tuning frequency.

WebMay 5, 2013 · As more and more port area is blocked, the air velocity in the port starts to go up and eventually it starts to make chuffing noise on the low notes. I got it to that point and then rounded over the ends of the foam to create a flared port which eliminated the chuffing. The end result is the cab sounds tighter now but still has plenty of bass.

As explained before as the area of a port is increased, the port has to lengthen to keep the box tuning frequency the same. By the way it is not a good idea to put subs in another cabinet.
