The John Balch House, located at 448 Cabot Street, Beverly, Massachusetts, is one of the oldest wood-frame houses in the United States. [1] [2] The place name literally means "homestead by the River Ise," having derived from the Celtic river-name + the Old English "ham" or "hamm."
